An Institution established by Rev. Thomas Huges in 1802. The academy was created as a "prep" school for college. Classes included languages, philosophy, and astronomy. The stone structure was built around 1806, making it one of the oldest buildings still standing in Beaver County.

An American soldier and physician who served as a colonel and brigade commander in the Union Army during the Civil War. He attended Greersburg Academy in Darlington from 1838 to 1840. After, he spent time in medical school in Pittsburgh.
 
ORDINANCES FROM DARLINGTON

Ordinance #245

An ordinance regulating the selling and use of fireworks or other pyrotechnics within the limits of the Borough of Darlington, and providing penalties for violation thereof.

Be it enacted and ordained by the Town Council of the Borough of Darlington and it is hereby enacted and ordained by authority of the same.

Sec. 1.  From and after the passage of this ordinance it shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to sell or expose for sale any fireworks or other pyrotechnics within the limits of the Borough of Darlington except on the third day of July of each year hereafter.

Sec. 2.  It shall be unlawful for any person or persons to discharge, ignite, fire or otherwise set in action any fireworks or other pyrotechnics except on the Fourth day of July or in the event the Fourth day of July of any year falls on Sunday, then it shall be lawful to fire or discharge such fireworks or other pyrotechnics on the day legally observed as such.

Sec. 3.  Any person, firm or corporation violating any provisions of this Ordinance shall upon conviction thereof before the Burgess or any Justice of the Peace of the Borough of Darlington, be sentenced to pay a fine of not less than $1.00 nor more than $10.00 and cost of prosecution and in default thereof to undergo imprisonment in the Beaver County Jail for a period not to exceed five days.

Sec. 4.  All ordinances or parts of ordinances inconsistent with the provisions of this ordinance be, and the same are hereby repealed.

Ordained and enacted into a law by the Town Council of the Borough of Darlington, this 18th day of June A.D. 1937.
